Report: Diabetes Costs Georgia $7.6B a Year

Georgia is shelling out $7.6 billion a year for diabetes, including medical costs and loss of productivity, according to new statistics released by Peach State Health Plan to mark November as National Diabetes Month.

More than 1.3 million Georgians currently live with the disease, and this number is projected to grow to more than 2 million by 2025. But only 814,000 residents, or 10 percent of the state's population, have been diagnosed, which means 25 percent of people with diabetes don't know they have the disease.
