William Sprague Jr., Former Savannah Foods CEO, Community Leader, Dead at 89

William W. Sprague Jr. was a businessman, community leader and military veteran who was known by his family and friends as a man with an irrepressible sense of humor and zest for life whether in the boardroom or fishing boat.
The Savannah native served as chairman of the board and CEO of Savannah Foods and Industries, makers of Dixie Crystals sugar, from 1972 to 1994. Under his leadership Savannah Foods grew from a small regional sugar refinery into a major national sugar company and member of the Fortune 500.
