New Oceanfront Venue in Hilton Head Keeps Local Artisans Top of Mind

Friday, May 5th, 2017

The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa proudly incorporates talented Hilton Head artisans into its Grand Ocean Terrace design.

Designers of The Grand Ocean Terrace were delighted to borrow extraordinary creativity from Savannah Surfaces, Distinctive Granite & Marble, and Lowcountry Originals in the planning and construction of this one-of-a-kind structure.

The overall interior design reflects the soft natural colors and texture of the exterior surroundings. Neutral colors and use of natural shell materials bring authenticity of the Lowcountry to the interior design and the scheme is a blend soft and warm grey and blue-greys with warm creamy wood trims and rustic beam accents.

Specializing in providing an unequaled selection of interior and exterior surfacing materials, Savannah Surfaces, a Savannah Hardscapes Company, is the go-to resource in the Lowcountry for masonry and surfacing projects of all sizes and levels of complexity. Savannah Surfaces supplied the rustic wood-look porcelain flooring, the wave-motif textured interior wall-cladding, the shimmering mother-of-pearl mosaic for the Rotunda walls, as well as many other field tiles and accents for the main event space and auxiliary guest-facing spaces in the project. The mix of materials invites guests while creating a refined backdrop for events during all seasons.

Distinctive Granite & Marble combines old world artisanship with modern technology, which is exactly what John Antunes’ team contributed into the design of the Grand Ocean Terrace.  While Distinctive carries more than 15,000 slabs and 250 varieties, The Westin Hilton Head’s new venue will feature mother of pearl accent tile that graces the curved entry corridor walls that lead to the main opening of the terrace space.

Chosen for their national reputation, Lowcountry Originals creates unique design features that carry a Lowcountry tone specific to the region. Each fixture incorporated into the design of the Grand Ocean Terrace could dazzle on its own and many include locally sourced oysters also used throughout the terrace design. With showrooms in Bluffton and Atlanta, Becky Brackett and her team of local welders and artisans creatively imagine lighting fixtures, sconces, bed swings, and other unique pieces delivered to all corners of the globe.

Staying true to a Lowcountry motif, the Grand Ocean Terrace design brings to life the natural elements and human talents that our region is known for across the globe.
