Hargray Announces Preparations in Place for Hurricane Irma in SC and GA
Thursday, September 7th, 2017
Hargray Communications has activated its emergency response plan in preparation for Hurricane Irma. In South Carolina and Georgia, the emergency measures include securing all of the company’s facilities, inspecting and refueling all generators, performing a risk assessment of key elements of the network, and coordinating with various agencies including the police, fire, and medical response. Emergency vehicles and equipment will be timely staged and ready to deploy as needed after the storm.
“With over 450 locally-based colleagues, we understand the criticality of communication, especially during emergencies. While it is our hope that we will not have to use our comprehensive emergency management plan, it is regularly reviewed to ensure we are well-prepared when needed,” remarked Jonathan Mullen, Director of Administration for Hargray. This attention to detail proved instrumental during Hurricane Matthew as Hargray’s core network remained intact and services to nearly all customers returned as commercial power was restored.
While it is too soon to predict the actual path of Hurricane Irma, residents in all of Hargray’s serving territories are urged to monitor and take appropriate measures as outlined by local and state emergency management authorities such as the South Carolina Emergency Management Division website at http://www.scemd.org and the Georgia Emergency Management Division website at http://www.gema.ga.gov.
Hargray will communicate hurricane-related updates and information on its website, Hargray.com, Facebook and Twitter. Depending on the path of the hurricane, key personnel will be positioned to provide emergency support in an effort to minimize any service impact. In addition, to the extent necessary, Hargray will relocate call center operations to areas outside of the path of the storm to reduce the risk of disruption to those services. To report a downed line or damaged facility, residents are asked to call 866.531.9276. For technical support or other questions, please call 877.427.4729.
