U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) announced the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport will receive two grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery and Economic Stability (CARES) Act for a total of $4,840,912.
One grant provides $1,135,497 to build on an existing plan to study the airport’s future needs and includes funding for an environmental assessment for the proposed short-term development in the southeast and northwest quadrants of airport property. The second grant provides $3,705,415 to replace escalators and improve drainage of the airfield.
“Savannah serves as an important commercial and tourism hub for Georgia,” said Loeffler. “I am proud to announce this $4.8 million in funding for the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport that will greatly benefit the entire Savannah community. Ensuring our local airports have adequate resources to improve their maintenance and assess their future needs is crucial to Georgia’s economy, now more than ever.”
