The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire, Inc. will offer two 28-hour Virtual General Civil Mediation Trainings. The first will be held from Thursday, August 13th, 2020 to Sunday, August 16th, 2020 9 am to 5 pm each day and the second will be held from Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 to Saturday, September 12th, 2020 9am to 5 pm each day. The Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution has temporarily waived the in person requirement for mediation training. Therefore, both training sessions will be held virtually. Participants will receive a Zoom invite once they pay the training fee. 

Mediation is a confidential process where a neutral third party follows standard guidelines to assist parties in reaching a settlement. Mediators are professionals who come from a variety of backgrounds and wish to become a registered neutral in the state of Georgia. Successful mediators are solution-oriented, critical thinkers, patient, persistent and effective listeners. 

“The Mediation Center is very excited to provide our General Civil Mediation Training virtually on the Zoom platform. Courts across the state of Georgia currently have a  need for mediators to help resolve the number of cases currently on hold due to COVID-19.” says Lee Robbins. 

Mediators can either serve as a volunteer or private mediator. The cost of the volunteer training is $250 and The Mediation Center covers the remainder of the cost to register. Volunteer mediators only provide mediation services for The Mediation Center. The cost for those interested in mediating outside of The Mediation Center is $1250. Private mediators may volunteer and also privately mediate. The fee includes the required practicum component for registration completed by observing virtual mediations. Certification in General Civil Mediation allows for mediation in civil cases in Georgia and is the first step towards becoming a domestic relations mediator.
