Savannah Fair Canceled over Health Concerns

To ensure the health and safety of guests, employees, volunteers and vendors, the Exchange Club Fair Association board of directors has canceled the 2020 South Georgia State Fair (formerly the Coastal Empire Fair).

“Our first and largest responsibility when planning a fair is to the health and safety of all involved,” said Joe Gamble, the president of the Exchange Club Fair Association board of directors. “Many vendors and other fairs have canceled fall plans out of an abundance of caution, and we decided that would be the best course of action for us.”

Construction on the new fairgrounds near Interstate 95 and Highway 204 is going as planned, Gamble added, and would have been complete in time for the inaugural South Georgia State Fair. The Coastal Empire Fair held its 70th annual fair at the Meding Street fairgrounds last fall with plans to open in October with the new name and location.

“We are exploring the possibility of a fair in the spring of 2021, and we will keep you informed as decisions are made,” Gamble said.
