Downtown Savannah's newest ladies boutique, September's Closet, has opened a second location in the Plant Riverside District's Three Muses Building.

Business leaders and local officials including Chatham County Sheriff John Wilcher, and several local designers, the artisan jewelry designer Brooke Lancaster among them, joined in the celebration of the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting and champagne toast. Notably, live mannequins and models posed one of the most intriguing aspects of the event, wearing some highly sought-after pieces in the new store.

September's Closet is a fun, trendy and unique clothing boutique that is full of fashion and color. Owner September Harper offers "a style for every story," and a true southern hospitality shopping experience.

As a woman business owner, Harper feels called to support other women business owners and features a number of designers and jewelry artists in her collections.

Brooke Lancaster is a local painter who has recently launched into creating one-of-a-kind, hand-painted jewelry using a technique of layering discs coated with a glass resin, and hand-beading with bone, antler and wood. Lancaster most recently designed "Little Artisan" necklaces, featuring a brass whistle which can be blown if a child feels unsafe or threatened, is approached by a stranger or even lost. The sales from these whistles benefit Operation Underground Rescue, an organization that aims to end child trafficking. These necklaces are available at September's Closet.

In addition to carrying Lancaster's statement pieces, September's Closet also features bold and trendy bags by Consuela, recognized as a Forbes Small Giant this year for the company's commitment to putting its people and positivity first. Forbes’ fifth annual Small Giants list highlights 25 privately-owned companies whose commitment to greatness over fast growth has enabled them to best serve their customers, employees and communities, all while maintaining profitability.

Founder and CEO Conni Reed takes pride in the role her business plays in supporting 300 Mexican craftspeople, whose art is incorporated into 99% of her products. She also strives to celebrate women making a positive difference in the world by gifting them bags through Consuela’s “It’s Not About The Bag” program.

"These ladies are changing the game when it comes to stylish designs, and have become an essential part of the fabric of our mission to empower women through fashion," said Harper. "I'm so proud to showcase the amazing work they are doing here in our downtown boutique."

The flagship location of September's Closet opened in June of 2018 in Sandfly, showcasing trendsetting designs such as "Pop that Color," one of the store's most popular lines. In addition to the same classic, southern and funky finds that made the first location so popular, the second location will also feature more upscale designers as well.

September's Closet is the latest store and one of only six clothing experiences to open in The Plant Riverside District, a $375 million development by hotelier Richard Kessler.

"I cannot tell you how honored I was when Mr. Kessler walked into our Sandfly location and asked me to be a part of his beautiful hotel," said Harper. "My store is known for having everything from your basic cami and fun colorful fashion pieces, to those unique statement pieces and even business attire. People consider us the 'hidden gem in Savannah,' and I couldn't have dreamed of a better location for our second store."

The downtown location is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
