Habersham YMCA Launches Their Annual Giving Tree

Staff Report

Thursday, November 12th, 2020

For those who want to help children and seniors in need this holiday season, the Habersham YMCA is currently looking for donors to adopt an angel.  Applications are also being accepted for families and seniors who are requesting assistance.

Through the partnership with CIS Savannah (aka Community In Schools), Toys for Tots, and Savannah South Rotary Club, the YMCA was able to provide toys, clothing and other essential items to more than 800 children and seniors last year.  Because of the pandemic this year, the expectation is that there will be a greater need in 2020.

“Our mission is to ensure that what is happening outside of the classroom doesn’t negatively impact learning inside the classroom and the Holiday Season can be a stressful time for kids.

CIS of Savannah is honored to be a part of this event again this year, working with the YMCA  to bring holiday cheer to students and families in need” said Catalina Garcia-Quick, President & CEO of CIS Savannah.

“The YMCA undertakes many outreach initiatives geared toward seniors and children.  A staff favorite is the Giving Tree.  This year, we are beginning to see requests earlier than in the past so we are expecting there to be a greater need than in previous years,” said Shannon Horst, YMCA Senior Membership and Program Director.  “I can’t imagine what it would feel like as a parent to not be able to provide a gift for my child at Christmas.  This is an opportunity for us to make a big difference in a child’s life and make things easier for struggling families during the holidays.”

Applications can be found online at www.ymcaofocastalga.org or picked up at the Habersham YMCA 6400 Habersham Street.  To adopt and Angel, contact the Habersham YMCA 912-354-6223 or Shannon Horst [email protected]

Deadline to apply or adopt is December 11, 2020.
