Visions; a tactile monumental sculpture will be exhibited in the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision's new on-site orientation and training mobility walkway garden.

Through mediums like sculpture, visual arts is indeed not limited to the sighted.

Sculpture provides various modalities to experience the creation of art.  Through configurations of form, surface texture, scale, positive and negative space, sound and temperature, sculpture is a constantly changing experience.

Although stainless steel is more costly steel, it a a preferred material as it allows the sculpture to be touched, cleaned, and preserved without any future treatments like powder coating or chemicals that would prevent oxidation.  This is especially important for a sculpture that will be experienced continually through the sensation of touch by the artists themselves as well as other participants at the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision.

The creation of this sculpture will also be used as an inspirational and educational tool for the youth summer camps and other emerging blind or visually impaired artists for years to come. Making your contribution a gift that keeps on giving.

The artists from the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision will be creating shapes with materials that will then be translated into stainless steel by local artists and fabricators.  They will be co-creators collectively in the design that will be featured and shared at the center in our newly created orientation and mobility training walkway--a training tool to teach independence to those who are blind or vision impaired.

As you might imagine COVID has been especially challenging for a community that relies on tactile experiences and connection.
