In honor of Child Abuse Awareness and Foster Care Month, Savannah Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will host a Pinwheel Garden Planting Ceremony on Monday, April 26, 2021. This ceremony will be held at Savannah Bananas sign outside of Grayson Stadium located at 1401 E Victory Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31404 at 10:00am.

The blue pinwheels that will be planted symbolize a very important message for the community. Each pinwheel will represent a child within the foster care system within Chatham County. The pinwheels are specifically used to represent a happy childhood and encourage the community to help prevent child abuse. Since April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and May is Foster Care Month, it is the perfect time to display these blue pinwheels nationally in an effort to help protect children across the country.

Savannah CASA has partnered with the Savannah Bananas because owners Jesse and Emily Cole are foster parents and understand firsthand the importance of protecting and supporting children who have experienced abuse and neglect.

“It is our responsibility to the children of our community to bring awareness to this very important issue. No child should experience abuse and the trauma has the potential to last a lifetime. We must all come together and do our part to protect our community’s children from harm” states Kate Blair, Executive Director of Savannah CASA.

In addition to the Garden of Blue Pinwheels, Savannah CASA is working hard to protect children in the community by recruiting and training advocates who represent their best interests in juvenile court. There are more than 350 children in foster care in Chatham County and each of those children deserve to have a CASA volunteer fighting for them. Savannah CASA volunteers increase access to services, promote safety, and advocate for timeliness and permanency for children involved in juvenile court proceedings.
