Savannah State University Presents "The Cardiovascular System in Virtual Reality"

Savannah State University’s Visual Immersive Tangible Applications Learning (VITAL) Research Lab is hosting “The Cardiovascular System in Virtual Reality” Friday, June 18 from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. The event will be held at 3219 College Street in Hubert Building D, third floor, Room 444, and is free and open to the public.
There will be five 1-hour sessions. Participants will experience the heart’s anatomy from a blood cell’s point of view and watch as illness and disease take over the heart. To schedule a session, visit https://calendly.com/vital-ssu/cardiovascular-event.
“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States,” said Mykela Zumbrum, VITAL research lab technician. “Cardiovascular disease can often be ‘silent’ and challenging to understand because we cannot see it. We are holding The Cardiovascular Event in Virtual Reality to provide our community a chance to visualize what cardiovascular disease looks like and see its effects on the heart.”

An extension of the College of Sciences and Technology, the VITAL Research Lab operates within the Chemistry and Forensic Sciences department.
In fall 2016, Savannah State completed development of the first, one-of-a-kind 3D virtual reality crime scene facility for training undergraduates. Since 2019, the university has offered a Virtual Forensic Science Certificate in evidence processing, documentation, and analysis.
The certificate program provides an immersive learning experience with the university’s exclusive 3D virtual reality crime scene investigation technology, including an immersive Haloscreen room. Certificate coursework covers procedures necessary for the proper use of 3D technology in criminal investigations, such as 3D scanning, processing, analyzing and the use of 3D virtual reality technology in courtroom presentation of crime scene evidence.
