Asbury Memorial Church announces that they have decided to postpone 2021’s God on Broadway series scheduled for October. This is a precautionary measure due to the rising number of COVID-19 delta variant cases in the Savannah area. This announcement comes after Savannah Mayor Van Johnson wisely placed a moratorium on issuing permits for events in public spaces and revoked permits for events planned through Sept. 30.

Rev. Billy Hester of Asbury Memorial says, “While we are not prevented from proceeding with God on Broadway by the Mayor’s moratorium, it is the responsible thing to do as this series usually attracts a significant number of people to our church building located at 1008 E. Henry Street, during Sundays in October.” 

Rev. Billy Hester and the team at Asbury Memorial are still planning to offer these stimulating sermons that blend themes from musicals with scripture when it is safer for people to gather in larger numbers. Plans for sermons featuring themes and music from Fiddler on the Roof, Spamalot, Hair, The Lion King and The Addams Family will be confirmed later this year. At this time, Asbury Memorial is continuing with both in person worship, with strict COVID-19 prevention protocols in place, and on-line streaming of worship at 11.15am every Sunday.
