The popular Bluffton Artisan Market is partnering with The Blood Connection, a community blood center that gives local blood donations directly to local health facilities.

The Blood Connection currently has a critical need for any kind of blood donation. Due largely to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lowcountry hospitals say there is a higher demand for blood products, but a shorter supply. After months of low donor turnout, The Blood Connection is experiencing a shortage like it’s never seen before. The situation could become more dire if members of the community don’t donate. There is no replacement for blood. When you give blood with The Blood Connection, you can save up to three local lives.

The first blood drive will be held at the Bluffton Artisan Market in Old Town Bluffton on Saturday, August 21, from 12-5 p.m. at Martin Family Park, 68 Boundary St. The Blood Connection will attend the remainder of the Bluffton Artisan Markets at Martin Family Park in 2021 (Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Nov. 20, Dec. 11).

Blood donors at each market will receive a $20 gift card.

The Bluffton Artisan Market is an open-air shopping event with live music that features local makers from 12-5 p.m. on select Saturdays at Martin Family Park and from 12-4 p.m. (nearly) every second Sunday at Burnt Church Distillery.

The positive response has been overwhelming!” said Katie Silva, founder of Lowcountry Made, the organization sponsoring the events. “Our community is so supportive of each other and it’s been exciting to see these creative businesses thrive.”
