Boy Scouts of America Coastal Georgia Council Starts Their 75th Year of Serving Students Through ScoutReach Program
Thursday, September 30th, 2021
Boy Scouts of America Coastal Georgia Council kicks off the 75th year of hosting their after-school ScoutReach program. This provides opportunities for over 300 area students to join scouting, who otherwise may not have the resources to participate. This after-school program puts a focus on leadership and an emphasis on urban and rural Scouting. ScoutReach is the BSA’s commitment to giving all youth the opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood or ethnic background. The cost of the program is covered by donors of the Coastal Georgia Council and the United Way of the Coastal Empire.
The Coastal Georgia Council has been providing programs to support local youth in need since the 1940’s and those programs continue to strive today. ScoutReach is modeled after a traditional Scout program and helps young people make ethical and moral choices by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law. It is an interactive program that consists of a lesson for the day, a learning activity, physical activities and outdoor opportunities. ScoutReach has a vision to help these youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership and citizenship skills that will influence their adult lives.ScoutReach is available to students aged 7-18 at participating schools. Each program is organized by school level; with elementary, middle, and high school programs. Students who attend ScoutReach afterschool, do so in partnership with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System; as well as other community organizations. For more information, contact us at (912) 927-7272, visit our website at www.coastalgeorgiabsa.org, and follow us on facebook at www.facebook.com/CoastalGeorgiaScouts/.
