Dr. Joe Buck, III formally announced his reelection campaign for Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) Board President today. Buck served as the two-term president for the SCCPSS from 2007 to 2014 and is presently in his third term.

“Over the last two years, the community has struggled to meet the unforeseen challenges of the Pandemic,”  according to Buck.  “Now, we must move forward toward the goals that were interrupted and help students relearn what they have lost.”

Buck outlined his initiatives, as follows:

• Continue the process of enabling students to academic recovery through the summer EMBRACE program and other initiatives

• Provide extended counseling services to overcome pandemic scars

• Finish the final modifications for safety in our schools so students will learn in secure environments

• Complete the Groves multi-school campus and build the new Windsor Forest High School while enhancing other schools through prudent use of ESPLOST IV funds.

“The Board exists, by Georgia Statute, to hire the Superintendent, approve appropriate policies, and provide the necessary financial resources so that programs can be implemented. Although the ultimate authority rests with the Superintendent, an effective Board President and Board enable the Superintendent to work toward improving the education and lives of all of our students,” Buck explained.

The election for school board president will be held in Chatham County on May 24, 2022.
