Thursday, March 3rd, 2022

The Mansion on Forsyth Park’s Grand Bohemian Gallery –  a popular destination for curated original works of art at 700 Drayton St. in Savannah, Ga. – is delighted to announce the artists for the 4th Annual Savannah Series, a popular event that showcases talented local artists. Savannah artists Ben Dory, Stacie Jean Albano and Ronald Martinez will be featured in separate solo exhibitions in March, April and May respectively.

“We’re delighted to continue our tradition of shining a spotlight on local artists who see Savannah as their home and as a primary source of artistic inspiration,” said Carmen Aguirre, Art Gallery Director at Grand Bohemian Gallery. “With a wide variety of art on display, including detailed jewelry, landscape paintings and hand blown glass, these exhibits are sure to offer something for everyone who loves art.”

Intricate jewelry pieces by Savannah metalsmith Ben Dory will be featured at an artist reception on Thursday, March 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be on display March 10-31.Originally from Kansas City, Kansas, Dory is fascinated by the mechanics of granulation, an ancient technique of fusing together small spheres via torch or kiln, and has become known as a pioneer of the stainless-steel granulation technique. Dory’s earrings, rings, brooches and necklaces showcase the technique’s vast style applications, from scientific and molecular to emotive and ornate. Dory earned an M.F.A. in Metalsmithing from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a B.F.A. in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from the University of Kansas.

Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) graduate Stacie Jean Albano’s first local exhibit featuring her works on paper, will open on Thursday, April 7 with an artist reception from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be on display April 7-30. Albano is known for her whimsical figurative drawings and confident use of a palette knife, paintbrush and color. She finds inspiration in the Lowcountry environment and enjoys painting flowers as well as landscapes. Albano’s work has been featured in shows in New York, Virginia and Washington, D.C. She earned a B.F.A. in Illustration and a B.F.A. in Painting, magna cum laude, from SCAD.

Ronald Martinez’s hand-blown glass creations will be featured at an artist reception on Thursday, May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be on display May 5-31. A Metter, Ga. native, Martinez was first introduced to the art of glassblowing in college and continued to pursue his love of the ancient craft in the Bay Area and Seattle, studying under some of Washington’s best glassblowers. He returned to the Savannah area with his family and opened Hostess City Hot Glass, one of the premier glassblowing studios in the South, in 2018.

All exhibits and artist receptions are free and open to the public. The Grand Bohemian Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily or by appointment. For more information about the 4th Annual Savannah Series, please visit kesslercollection.com or call 912.721.5007.
