Friday, March 18th, 2022
The return of the St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah also means the return of the big cleanup, the morning after the festivities. The city of Savannah had about 100 workers out cleaning, starting at about 3:30 a.m. on Friday. “We get it cleaned up as quickly as we can. I think the crowd is a little smaller and the overall planning to make a more family centered event has actually taken hold so it is a good thing,” said Gene Prevatt, the director of sanitation.
He says they start at River Street and work their way south to clean up. River Street was completely clear of trash around 5 a.m. on Friday. “It’s shaping up very well, fortunately its been a light event, sometimes we come out here and we can’t even see the cobblestones when we start,” Prevatt said.
