YMCA of Coastal Georgia Hosting Two March Ribbon Cutting Events

Thursday, March 10th, 2022

The YMCA of Coastal Georgia is pleased to be cutting the ribbon on two exciting initiatives during the month of March, 2022.

The public is invited to join the Y in the official grand opening of the Randy and Jan Bugos Outdoor Fitness Station at the Habersham YMCA’s Mason Trail on Tuesday, March 15 at 10 a.m. Speaking at the event will be the Y’s Pastor Herb Hubbard and CEO Joel Smoker. Featured speakers will be David Mason—long-time corporate board member and friend of the Y for whom the Mason Trail is named—and Randy Bugos, former CEO and honored guest. Navy sailors in town for Fleet Week will launch the event with a fitness competition using the Outdoor Fitness Station equipment.

Randy Bugos served the YMCA of Coastal Georgia for more than 30 years. Under his leadership, the association grew from two branches to ten. He is also responsible for the establishment of the association’s Pryme Tyme before- and after-school care program in the 1980s, when moms were beginning to enter the workforce on a larger scale and the number of latch-key children was on the rise.

The Randy and Jan Bugos Outdoor Fitness Station is an opportunity for members and the public to enjoy the outdoors while getting their regular workout in. Equipment utilizes the user’s own body weight to provide resistance and many of the pieces are wheelchair accessible. The fitness center is located at the Habersham YMCA in Savannah at 6400 Habersham Street, on the Mason Trail.

On March 30 at 8:30 a.m., the YMCA of Coastal Georgia is excited to officially cut the ribbon on its storefront at the Junior Achievement (JA) Discovery Center of Savannah. The storefront is a partnership with JA of Georgia and its efforts to bring relevance to everyday learning in order to energize students around academics and their future possibilities. The Y’s storefront will support JA BizTown and JA Finance Park, programs that will impact more than 15,000 Coastal Georgia middle school students annually.

JA BizTown creates a comprehensive experience where students can interact within a simulated economy and take on the challenge of fueling a business. Students not only discover the intricacies of being a professional and member of the community, but also realize the abundance of real opportunities available in their own hometown. JA Finance Park provides students the rare opportunity to experience their personal finance futures by participating in an immersive simulation enabling them to develop skills to help successfully navigate today’s complex economic environment and discover how decisions made today can impact tomorrow. The Junior Achievement Discovery Center of Savannah is located at 6001 Chatham Center Dr., #150, and the Y’s storefront is Store 15, between Georgia Power and Critz Automotive.
