Hinesville Sees Rise in March Unemployment

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Hinesville’s March unemployment rate was up one-tenth to 3.4 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.1 percent. Despite this, the labor force and the number of employed in Hinesville were at an all-time high in March.
“Across Georgia, we continue to see increases in the labor force, the number of employed, and the number of jobs,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “With Georgia having the lowest unemployment rate of the top ten most populated states, we are pleased to see Georgians enter the workforce filling the many open positions available in all of our regions and counties.”

The labor force increased in Hinesville by 88 and ended the month with 35,160, an all-time high. That number is down 141 when compared to March of 2021.

Hinesville finished the month with 33,962 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 46 over the month and is up by 118 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Hinesville ended March with 21,500 jobs. Jobs were up 200 over the month and up 300 over the year.

The number of unemployment claims went up by 18 percent in Hinesville in March. When compared to last March, claims were down by about 76 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 651 active job postings in Hinesville for March.
