Savannah CASA is Making Life Brighter for Children in Foster Care

Brightside Advocacy's Savannah Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program will hold its annual Almost There Party on Thursday, April 7, 2021, at 5:30 pm at Ghost Coast Distillery (641 Indian Street). The Almost There Party is part of their signature fundraising event, Dancing with Savannah Stars, held on May 13. At this event, thirteen “Savannah Stars” are paired with a professional dancer to compete on stage and raise $150,000 to sustain programming needs for Chatham County children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
The Almost There party is an opportunity for the Stars to invite the community to support their fundraising efforts. A suggested donation of $5 towards the Star of your choice will grant you access to a premier silent auction with items from Savannah's best in business. Drinks will also be available for purchase, including an $8 Signature CASA Cocktail, whose proceeds will benefit Savannah CASA.
This year's incredible Savannah Stars are Angela Lightsey of Tybee Wellness Retreats, Cissy Smith of The Savannah Board of Realtors, Gillian Karatassos of Gillian Trask Design, Kareem McMichael of Savannah State University, Kierstin Graham of Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council, Marianne Ganem-Poppell of Savannah Master Calendar, Marvette Wilkerson of Georgia Southern University, Moncello Stewart of Savannah State University, Nicole Rawls of Rawls Realty, Pria Padgett of WTOC., Rick Ellison of Retirees Unite For the Future (RUFF), Sabriya Scott of Scott Realty Professionals and Jonathan Jefferson of Memorial Health.
The efforts of each 2022 Savannah Star will ensure that every child in foster care has an advocate amplifying their voice. CASA volunteers increase access to services, promote safety, and advocate for permanency for children in foster care. "Dancing with Savannah Stars is more than just a fundraiser to me. It allows me to give back in a way that really touches my heart. Being able to help children who are forced to leave their homes and everything they know gives me a great sense of purpose," states 2022 DWSS Dancer Cissy Smith of The Savannah Board of Realtors.
Savannah CASA is now a program under Brightside Advocacy. Brightside provides services to prevent child abuse and neglect by strengthening and supporting healthy family relationships.
