The American Heart Association hosted the annual Savannah Go Red for Women Luncheon on April 21st at the Savannah Country Club. Over 100 local Savannah residents joined together to help raise awareness of the No. 1 and No. 5 killers of American women – heart disease and stroke.

Attendees enjoyed a heart-healthy seated lunch, a touching story from local stroke survivor, Wendy Corbin, and a keynote message from Susan Parys, of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, which enlightened guests of the importance of preventative heart health in the prevention of heart disease and stroke.

In addition, a lively fashion show featuring local Savannah celebrities featured clothing from J. Parker, Ltd. And Dillard’s.

“We were honored to bring the lifesaving message of the Go Red for Women movement to Savannah,” said Royceann Friedman, Development Director for the American Heart Association. “Heart disease claims the lives of more local women than all forms of cancer combined and thanks to the generosity of the Savannah community, we are able to continue our critical work to change that statistic.”

The event was nationally sponsored by CVS Health and locally sponsored by Georgia Ports Authority, Encompass Health, South State Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, WSAV-TV, GHC Hospice, and Harmony at Savannah.
