Step One Automotive Group presents their Local Hero Award to Chatham EMS District Chief Doug Lewis, Field Training Officer Rosemary Mitts, and EMT Alyssa Skarin. The award will be presented during their 31st monthly Grab-n-Go Meal event for first responders on Friday, May 20th from 11am to 2:00pm at South Savannah Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Fiat’s location at 8701 Abercorn Street, Savannah GA.

“Every month Step One awards people that have made a significant contribution to the community. This month it was an easy decision because day after day, shift after shift, our local first responders ‘Rise to the Challenge’ and we salute them for their efforts," states Step One Automotive Group Marketing Manager Maja Ciric.

“EMS Week - ‘Rising to the Challenge’ is May 15th-21st. For many this is just a phrase that means nothing. To me it means everything. I have watched the Paramedics and EMTs of Chatham rise to the challenge in so many ways. They were faced with pandemic, staffing shortages, long hours, increased call volumes, juggling family and work, and so so much more. I am honored to recommend District Chief Doug Lewis, Field Training Officer Rosemary Mitts, and EMT Alyssa Skarin for their efforts in saving one of our community members' lives," states Chatham County EMS Deputy Chief Lydia McCrary. “Their assessment, decision making and care led to trauma activation and appropriate resources being in place upon their arrival at the Trauma Center. Today, because of them continuing to show up and do the job most couldn't or wouldn't do, there is a woman who has life and that is rising to the challenge,” adds McCrary.
