A Message from the CEO
As a native Floridian, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Sunshine State. Residents are beginning the long and emotional process of recovery from Hurricane Ian's fury. Hopefully, there is no loss of life.

At the Mighty Eighth Museum, preparations for a weekend storm have been ongoing for days. Facilities staff tending to buildings and ground responsibilities, while Research and Collections team is focused on the well-being of the museum's permanent collection. The museum's disaster-preparedness plan is "battle tested" thanks to a string of severe weather over the past six years. I am confident your museum, its priceless collections and its professional staff will weather this storm.

The Holocaust in Poetry and Music
The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force was pleased to host “The Holocaust in Poetry and Music”. Poet Holly Mandelkern read original poetry from her book, Beneath White Stars, and musician Brendan Nolan
performed music scored from Ms. Mandelkern’s poetry.

Ms. Mandelkern is the daughter of Second Lieutenant Herman Lodinger. Lt. Lodinger was a lead bombardier on a B-24 heavy bomber assigned to the 389th Bomb Group. His plane was shot down in July 1944, he was captured by the Germans and held prisoner until his 1945 liberation. In honor of her father, Ms. Mandelkern and her husband established the Herman Lodinger Endowment Fund at the museum.

This event was recorded and will run as part of "Target for Today" on Thursday, November 10th at 2:00 PM on the National Museum Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Facebook page. For a preview click the picture below.
