Miller & Martin Elects Attorneys Elizabeth Marquardt and Scott Simmons as Members

Miller & Martin PLLC is pleased to announce the election and promotion of attorneys Elizabeth Marquardt and Scott Simmons to membership in the law firm, effective January 2023.

Marquardt is a litigator practicing in the firm’s Atlanta office. She represents corporate and individual clients in complex commercial disputes in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration proceedings. Marquardt’s civil practice is focused on business litigation and she frequently represents clients in matters involving breach of contract, negligence, fraud, bad faith, indemnification and business torts. She also specializes in insurance coverage litigation, representing insureds and insurers in first-party claims. Marquardt is an active member of Miller & Martin's Women's Network and serves as the firm’s Hiring Committee Vice Chair.
She graduated with a law degree from Emory University and a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from the University of Florida. She is licensed in Georgia and Tennessee. Marquardt’s accolades include being named to Georgia Trend magazine’s Legal Elite and recognition in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America and Mid-South Super Lawyers Rising Stars. She is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association’s Litigation Section and Activities Committee as well as a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia.
Before joining Miller & Martin in 2018, she practiced at an insurance coverage boutique firm in Atlanta. She also previously served as an extern for the Georgia Attorney General in the Government Counsel Division.
Simmons focuses his practice in the firm’s Chattanooga office on labor-and-employment matters. He regularly advises clients on a wide range of employment-related topics, with a heavy focus on wage-and-hour compliance, and he also has significant experience defending a wide variety of employment-related disputes before myriad employment-related forums, including both state and federal courts, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the National Labor Relations Board.
Simmons is licensed to practice in Tennessee, and he has been recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America in the areas of commercial litigation, labor-and-employment law, and employment litigation. He graduated from the University of Tennessee magna cum laude with his law degree, as well as with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and an MBA.
He is a member of the Chattanooga Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association, and he serves on the board of directors for the Southeast Tennessee Society of Human Resource Management. His community involvement also includes serving as Deacon Chairman and Personnel Committee member for Red Bank Baptist Church.
Simmons returned to the private practice of law at Miller & Martin in 2019 after pursuing additional professional experiences. He spent several years as a partner and licensed agent in an independent commercial insurance agency. He also is an ordained Southern Baptist minister who served several years full-time as Senior Pastor of a local church.
