Savannah Stars Make Life Brighter For Children in Foster Care

Staff Report

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023

Brightside Advocacy's Savannah Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program will hold its annual Almost There Party on Thursday, March 23rd, at 5:30 pm at Starland Yard. The Almost There Party is part of their signature fundraising event, the 15th annual Dancing with Savannah Stars, held on April 20th at Victory North. At this event, eleven “Savannah Stars” are paired with a professional dancer to compete on stage for the grand prize. Along the way, they are tasked with raising $15,000 each to sustain programming needs for Chatham County children who have experienced abuse and neglect.

The Almost There party is an opportunity for the Stars to invite the community to support their fundraising efforts. A suggested donation of $5 towards the Star of your choice will grant you access to a premier silent auction with items from Savannah's best in business. Proceeds from the event will benefit the stars’ fundraising campaigns.

This year's incredible Savannah Stars are Nikki Parks of Seaport Real Estate, Corey Howard from WSAV, Kenyatta Roebuck of Morgyn and Myla Skin Therapy, Will Gruver of Jan Pro, Marti Tomlin of Seaport Real Estate, Sally Helm of the Metropolitan Planning Commission, Trish Brown of Trish B. Stylin’, Evan Goetz of Tybee Post Theatre, Brittany Norman from City of Savannah, Jordan Sophia Alexander, and Latrell Gulotta of Chatham County Family Treatment Court.

The efforts of each 2023 Savannah Star will ensure that every child in foster care has an advocate amplifying their voice. CASA volunteers increase access to services, promote safety, and advocate for permanency for children in foster care.

Savannah CASA is now a program under Brightside Advocacy. Brightside provides services to prevent child abuse and neglect by strengthening and supporting healthy family relationships.
