World No. 166 Jack Sock Returns To Defend Title At The 2023 Savannah Challenger
Monday, April 24th, 2023
The USTA announced that past Olympian and 2022 Savannah Challenger champion Jack Sock will return for this year’s challenger, a USTA Pro Circuit & ATP Challenger 80 event, hosted at The Landings Club, April 24-30.
The tournament is the fifth USTA Pro Circuit men’s Challenger event of the 2023 season. It is the last of three consecutive Challenger tournaments held on clay courts to help develop players on the surface leading up to the 2023 French Open.
Currently Sock is the third highest-ranked of the 21 men who received direct acceptance into the 32-player main draw. 24 players will compete in the qualifying tournament April 23-24 for six other berths. The local tournament organizers and the USTA will also award wild card entries to complete the field.
Sock broke into Top 200 in men’s singles during the 2020 season and most recently cracked the Top 100 in doubles in 2022. He is the only men’s or women’s tennis player to earn multiple medals at 2016 Rio Olympics, winning gold in mixed doubles and bronze in men’s doubles.
Joining Sock in the main draw is last year’s semifinalist Christian Harrison along with past Challenger champion Bjorn Frantangelo and past competitor Alexis Galaneau from Canada. Americans Mitchell Kruger, Alex Michelsen, and Oliver Crawford are also expected to compete.
The official player acceptance list is subject to change and can be viewed by visiting www.savannahchallenger.com/players.
Tickets for the tournament are available for purchase on the Savannah Challenger website and through Event Brite. All Landings Club members will receive free grounds admission April 24-30, and non-member grounds admission costs $10.
