The Hilton Head Island Land Trust is proud to announce that two ospreys have been named in honor of two iconic figures in the island's history: Charles Frazier, the developer and founder of The Sea Pines Company, and Charlotte Heinrichs, founder of The Deep Well Project.

The ospreys, which raptor cam viewers have been joyfully watching nest, have been named Charles and Charlotte. "It's an honor to recognize two of our island's most iconic figures in this way," said Hilton Head Island board member Robin Storey. "By naming these ospreys, we hope to pay homage to their legacy and the important part they played in shaping Hilton Head Island's unique history. Thank you to all viewers who entered their creative and thoughtful names.

Ospreys are a type of fish-eating bird of prey that can be found in coastal regions across the world. They are often referred to as "fish hawks" due to their diet consisting mainly of fish. Ospreys typically nest in trees or on man-made structures near water. Stay tuned and watch what Charles and Charlotte will be up to next at hhilandtrust.org/raptorcam.

In 2021, the Raptor Cam debuted featuring a pair of bald eagles that chose the nest. The eagles, affectionately named Mitchell and Harriet, successfully incubated two eaglets that unfortunately fell out of the nest due to avian flu. Since then, the nest has been home to Great Horned Owls and other transient birds.
