Plant Riverside District to Host Patriotic Savannah Stars and Stripes July 4th Weekend Celebration

Plant Riverside District – which is widely known as Savannah’s Entertainment District – will host the 2023 Savannah Stars and Stripes July 4th Weekend Celebration from Friday, June 30 through Tuesday, July 4. This popular annual event will offer free live music, kid-friendly activities and food and drink options for all ages. along Savannah’s historic riverfront at 400 W. River St.

“We invite locals and visitors to join us for five days and nights of patriotic fun at Plant Riverside District,” said Richard C. Kessler, Chairman and CEO of The Kessler Collection. “We’re delighted to offer the best views of the July 4th fireworks over the Savannah River and look forward to powerful live performances by the Parris Island Marine Band and the 116th United States Army Band.”

FIREWORKS & FOURTH OF JULY VIEWING PARTY

Plant Riverside District will sponsor the annual Savannah’s Waterfront Independence Day Fireworks Show, which will light up the sky over the Savannah River on Tuesday, July 4 at 9:15 p.m. A special Fourth of July Viewing Party at Electric Moon will feature live DJ Lil’ G, exciting giveaways and an ideal vantage point to watch the fireworks show. Admission is $20 per person at the door.

LIVE MILITARY BANDS

On Saturday, July 1 at 1 p.m., the Parris Island Marine Band will offer a patriotic performance at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park at Plant Riverside District. Originally founded in 1915, the Parris Island Marine Band is based at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, S.C. and is a four-time recipient of the Col. George S. Howard Citation of Musical Excellence for Military Concert Bands.

The 116th United States Army Band, a unit of the Georgia National Guard from Marietta, Ga., will perform live on Sunday, July 2 at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Popular Savannah singer, speaker and author Stephanie Cherry leading a stirring rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” immediately preceding the 116th United States Army Band’s performance.

FREE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Featured artists performing live throughout the holiday weekend include Ramona + the Riot, Laiken Love and The Fellowship of Love, Individually Twisted, Hollifield, Mily Kinner & the Mini Killers and Natalie Goodman. In addition, Myrtle & Rose Rooftop Garden will host Andrew Ottimo live on June 30 from 7-10 p.m. and Brian Bazemore live on July 1 from 7-10 p.m. A complete entertainment schedule is available at plantriverside.com.

KIDS ACTIVITIES

A special Kids Corner will offer the opportunity to tie-dye t-shirts red, white and blue with support from Savannah Tie Dye. Plant Riverside District will host the tie-dye Kids Corner at the Riverwalk Pavilions from Saturday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. Guests can bring their own 100% cotton t-shirt to tie dye free of charge or can purchase a t-shirt on-site for $10. 

PATRIOTIC LIGHTING AND MORE

Throughout the holiday weekend, Plant Riverside District’s iconic smokestacks, fountains and other familiar landmarks will be illuminated with red, white and blue lights after dark. Nightly America the Beautiful Fountain Shows will feature patriotic music in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

FOOD AND DRINK SPECIALS

Food and drink specials will be available daily at the exceptional restaurants at Plant Riverside District, including a full menu of Angus beef hamburgers and cheeseburgers, imported beers and craft beers at Riverside Burgers.

District Smokehouse and District Seafood will offer July 4th weekend favorites, including Chopped Brisket and Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Smoked Savannah Hot Wings, Fried Georgia Shrimp and specialty summer cocktails, including the Spangled 76, which is handcrafted with Bacardi Rum, Blue Curacao and Crown Apple. Hot dogs, gelato, popcorn and cold beverages will also be available for purchase along the riverfront.
