Savannah Sees Slight Uptick in June Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Savannah recorded an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent in June, up one-tenth of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.2 percent.
“The bedrock of a thriving economy lies in maintaining low unemployment, but equally essential is striking the right balance between job growth and a capable workforce that can meet the evolving needs of Georgia’s industries,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This well-balanced approach ensures businesses of all sizes have the talent they need to grow and succeed."
The labor force decreased in Savannah by 248 and ended the month with 199,271. That number decreased by 74 when compared to June of 2022.
Savannah finished the month with 192,889 employed residents. That number decreased by 372 over the month and was down by 69 when compared to the same time a year ago
Savannah ended June with 202,800 jobs. That number decreased by 100 from May to June and increased by 2,800 when compared to this time last year.
In June, initial unemployment claims decreased by 11 (-2%) in Savannah. When you compare June 2023 claims to June 2022, claims were down by 7 (-1%).
