July Unemployment Rate Declines in Savannah

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Savannah recorded an unemployment rate of 2.8 percent in July, down four-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.9 percent.
“Georgia’s labor market continues to stand strong as a beacon of hope and prosperity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “With low unemployment and plentiful job opportunities, local communities are thriving and showcasing remarkable resilience in the face of economic uncertainty.”
The labor force increased in Savannah by 1,753 and ended the month with 201,811. That number went up by 3,692 when compared to July of 2022.
Savannah finished the month with 196,106 employed residents. That number increased by 2,412 over-the-month and rose by 3,775 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Savannah ended July with 204,400 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 800 from June to July and rose by 4,700 when compared to this time last year.
