Wednesday, October 18th, 2023

Isle of Hope United Methodist Church will host a presentation on protecting children from online risks on Sunday, October 22 at 10:30 a.m. The talk will be delivered by Traci Hurley from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and will take place at 412 Parkersburg Rd, Savannah, GA 31406. Admission is free and the event is open to all.

In this presentation, Hurley will explore the various types of technology that children use and their impact. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least four popular social media apps.

  • Distinguish between cyberbullying and traditional bullying by noting two key differences.

  • Recognize the steps that adults can take to safeguard children from online risks.

Participants will be equipped with online family agreements, cell phone contracts for both younger and older children, as well as video game agreements to implement boundaries within their homes. Attendees will also receive application and device recommendations to monitor their youth’s online activity. This training offers robust amounts of resources that empower and encourage caregivers to protect children from harm online.

"In today's digital era, the internet provides abundant opportunities for children," stated Stephen Grantham, Senior Pastor at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. "Nevertheless, it is essential for parents and guardians to be mindful of the risks that come with it. Therefore, we are delighted to announce this workshop on online safety. We are pleased to have Traci from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, who is dedicated to the welfare of children and possesses the expertise to help parents and caregivers comprehend the complexities of social media and how to ensure their children's online safety. This is going to be an amazing and informative event."
