Monday, October 23rd, 2023
WHAT: Park Place Outreach, Inc., a nonprofit that provides programming for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth in our community, invites community members to participate in events for National Runaway Prevention Month, including Wear Green Day(November 16) and Light the Night (November 17).
November is National Runaway Prevention Month (NRPM). Throughout the month, organizations and Youth Ambassadors across the country are raising awareness of the youth homelessness crisis and educating the public about the role they can play in preventing and ending youth homelessness.
WHEN: Wear Green Day (November 16)
Community members are invited to dress in green and post pictures on social media about their commitment to youth who have run away or are experiencing homelessness. Spark a friendly competition among co-workers, invite community leaders to join the fun, and dress your pets in your favorite shade of green! Be sure to tag Park Place Outreach and use the hashtags #NRPM2023 and #ParkPlaceOutreach.
Light the Night (November 17)
Join Park Place Outreach to shine a light on runaway youth and homelessness by lighting your business or residence with a green light. Share photos to social media and be sure to tag Park Place Outreach and use the hashtags #NRPM2023 and #ParkPlaceOutreach.
WHY: In the United States, approximately 4.2 million young people between the ages 13 to 25 experience some form of homelessness every year. While living on the streets, in shelters or couch surfing, life can be challenging; youth may have difficulty finding food, caring for their mental and physical health, avoiding potentially dangerous situations and staying in school.
Through targeted prevention strategies and early intervention programs, organizations like Park Place Outreach are working to support youth in crisis and end youth homelessness.
INTERVIEWS: Adriana Tatum-Howard, Executive Director of Park Place, is available to discuss how this issue impacts our community, how Park Place is helping, and what the public can do to get involved.
