September Unemployment Rate Drops in Hinesville

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Hinesville recorded an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in September, down four-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.0 percent.
 
 "Georgia reigns as the ultimate destination for business and economic opportunity," said Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson. "However, with recent workforce reductions at Geico, Yellow Freight, and other companies throughout the state, we need to be cognizant of the financial pressures creating some instability within our existing business community. In today's ever-shifting global market, we must remain vigilant and lead with innovation."

The labor force increased in Hinesville by 160 and ended the month with 35,304, an all-time high. That number went up by 633 when compared to September of 2022.

Hinesville finished the month with 34,076 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 301 over-the-month and rose by 458 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Hinesville ended September with 22,400 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 100 from August to September and rose by 400 when compared to this time last year.

In September, initial unemployment claims decreased by 26 (-17%) in Hinesville. When you compare September 2023 claims to September 2022, claims were up by 14 (12%).
