SD Gunner Fund Celebrates its Volunteers, Supporters, and Program Recipients at Salute to Service Event

The SD Gunner Fund, a non-profit organization that trains and places service and therapy dogs for veterans, first responders, and children with disabilities, held its Salute to Service Event on Veteran’s Day Saturday, November 11th, at the Belhaven Event Venue in Richmond Hill.
The event was a resounding success, with over 150 guests attending to honor volunteers, donors, and those who have benefited from the organization's life-changing service and therapy dog programs.
"This event is our way of showing our deep appreciation to the incredible individuals who make our mission possible," said Britnee Kinard, Executive Director of SD Gunner Fund. "Their dedication and commitment are the driving forces behind our organization's success, and we are truly grateful for their unwavering support."
Among the highlights of the event was the recognition of the organization's major sponsors, whose generous contributions play a crucial role in enabling SD Gunner Fund to continue its life-changing work. The major sponsors included: Teresa Cowart Real Estate Team, Step One Automotive, Secure Transport & Storage, and Red Bin Dumpsters.
The event featured a heartwarming tribute to the organization's volunteers, including the presentation of 15 Presidential Volunteer Service Awards. This prestigious accolade honors individuals who have committed themselves to service, embodying the spirit of America with their dedication.
Officer Fleming and K9 Darcy were recognized with the Community Service Canine Award, honoring their outstanding contributions to the community. Todd Watkins, a dedicated volunteer, received the Volunteer of the Year Award, further highlighting the exceptional individuals who empower SD Gunner Fund's mission.
The U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club (USMVMC) Surrency, Georgia Chapter was presented with SD Gunner Fund’s Legacy Award, custom designed by Kristen Baird, an award-winning fine jewelry artist in Savannah. This prestigious award recognized the chapter's exceptional contributions to the organization's mission and their commitment to community service.
"We are incredibly proud of our volunteers, board members, advisors, sponsors, annual donors, and dog trainers," said Kinard. "Their collective efforts have made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals, and we are honored to recognize their outstanding contributions at our Salute to Service Event."
The event featured a variety of activities, including delicious food offerings donated by Himalayan Curry Kitchen, Southern Charcuterie, All Things Chocolate and More, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, as well as a silent auction and Savannah Axe Throwing. Coastal Event Rentals generously donated party rentals for the event. Guests also had the opportunity to learn more about SD Gunner Fund's mission and how they can support the organization.
SD Gunner Fund remains committed to providing life-changing services to veterans, first responders, and children with disabilities. Since its founding, SD Gunner Fund has provided fully trained service dogs for 85 veterans, first responders, and exceptional children, and 10 therapy dogs that reach more than 150,000 children and adults every year.
