Savannah Classical Academy CCRPI Scores Outperform District and State

Wednesday, January 17th, 2024

Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) announces another excellent year for the charter school as the 2023 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores are released by The Georgia Department of Education.  SCA average scores consistently outperformed Chatham County district and Georgia state schools in elementary, middle and high schools.

Based on these CCRPI accountability scores regarding SCA students’ mastery of core content SCA elementary ranks 3rd of 35 elementary schools in Chatham County, SCA middle school ranks 1st of 21 middle schools in Chatham County and SCA high school ranks 5th out of 13 high schools in Chatham County. This achievement is especially meaningful as there is no academic performance requirement to enroll in SCA, which is open and free to any student residing in Chatham County whose family applies through the school lottery.

The Department of Education uses a calculation that reflects the opportunities schools offer students – from fine arts to career education – rather than focusing strictly on standardized test scores.  Comparing scoring against district and state averages demonstrates a significant gap between SCA results and other schools’ average scores.  In elementary schools’ content mastery SCA scored 79.8 compared to 50.5 in the district and 64.7 in the state; in middle schools’ content mastery SCA scored 86 compared to 42.3 in the district and 60.9 in the state and in high school SCA scored 68.2 compared to 53.3 in the district and 65 in the state.

Also of note, the closing gaps achieved by SCA were superior to the majority of district schools. In elementary school SCA is ranked 13th out of 35 although the school has the 4th highest score because ten schools are tied for first place.  Looking at high school graduation rates, SCA is ranked 5th out of 13 schools with the 4th highest score as 2 schools are tied for first place.

Commenting on the CCRPI scores, SCA CEO Mr. Barry Lollis said, “These results, combined with our latest excellent GMAS scores, prove that SCA continues to provide a top-quality education. These successes would not be possible without the commitment of our teachers, students and families and I am confident we will continue to demonstrate positive achievement outcomes in our K-12 charter school.”

SCA is a K-12 school which is open to all students residing in Chatham County, is funded by the public education system but retains a charter that allows it to operate autonomously under a board of parents and community members. It is the philosophy of Savannah Classical Academy that all students benefit from a rigorous, content-rich, educational program that develops academic potential and personal character. The school provides an environment that fosters academic excellence through the habits of thoroughness, the willingness to work, and the perseverance to complete difficult tasks. Through a defined traditional, Classical-Liberal curriculum, students are prepared to become active, responsible members of their community.
