Savannah Unemployment Rate Drops Heading into the New Year

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Savannah recorded an unemployment rate of 2.6 percent in November, down five-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.6 percent.
 
“As we prepare to ring in a new year, Georgia’s future is bright, said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “With holiday shopping and retail kicking back up, Georgia’s unemployment rates are dropping faster than holiday deals. Coupled with a soaring job market and a workforce ready to take on limitless opportunities, Georgia is well on the road to success.”

The labor force increased in Savannah by 205 and ended the month with 200,376. That number went up by 2,964 when compared to November of 2022.

Savannah finished the month with 195,129 employed residents. That number increased by 1,150 over-the-month and rose by 2,888 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Savannah ended November with 205,700 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 1,700 from the previous month and rose by 3,200 when compared to this time last year.

In November, initial unemployment claims decreased by 129 (-23%) in Savannah. When you compare November 2023 claims to November 2022, claims were down by 119 (-22%).
