Savannah’s Boat Parade of Lights on the Savannah River has announced it raised over $10,000 to benefit the programs which Greenbriar offers for children and families in Chatham County.
“The participation of our boat captains, our crews and our sponsors was critical for a successful event” said delylah Thompson, President of Savannah Calla, and Chairperson of the parade. “As always, they were filled with enthusiasm not only to usher in the holiday season in Savannah, but to help to raise critical funding for Greenbriar, which has been helping children in need in Chatham County since 1949.”
The Savannah Boat Parade of Lights was held this year on Saturday, November 25th from 7-9 pm. Athough the parade is free to the public, funds from sponsorships and contributions are donated to Greenbriar Children’s Center, a non-profit which operates three affordable early learning and infant centers for children ages, 6 weeks to 5 years and a Family Preservation program which provides services to families including counseling, life skills training, and parent education. Additionally, Greenbriar operates one of only two emergency shelters in the area for children ages 11-18 who are abused, neglected, abandoned or homeless.
“We were thrilled to be able to participate as a beneficiary of this parade,” said Gena P. Taylor, Executive Director of Greenbriar. “I want to thank delylah Thompson, and all of the sponsors, particularly the Thompson Hotel, for their support which helped to make this parade a successful, community-wide event.”
