City of Savannah Welcomes Home Sgt. Moffett

On Thursday, Feb. 15, the City of Savannah and surrounding communities will welcome home the remains of U.S. Army Reservist Sgt. Breonna Moffett with a special motorcade procession. 

Savannah Police Department will lead the motorcade from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to Campbell and Sons Funeral Home at approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday. 

The motorcade is set to travel along Hwy. 80/West Bay Street into downtown Savannah. It will turn south on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The Savannah Fire Department will show their respect with a Flag display on W. Bay St. just west of MLK Blvd. 

“As a community, we mourn the loss of one of our bravest members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” Mayor Van. R. Johnson, II said. “We invite everyone to show their respects to Sgt. Moffett and her family on Thursday as she returns home for the final time.”  

Residents who wish to pay their respects are asked to do so from the sidewalks on MLK Blvd. between W. Oglethorpe and W. Gwinnett. The motorcade will turn east on W. Gwinnett St. from MLK Blvd., then turn south on Whitaker St. and west on Park Avenue before turning into Campbell and Sons Funeral Home. Traffic will temporally be affected by the motorcade. 

Sgt. Moffett was killed in the line duty in an outpost in Rukban, Northeast Jordan on Jan. 28 while assigned to the 718th Engineer Company out of Fort Moore, Georgia during Operation Inherent Resolve. Staff Sgt. William Jermone Rivers of Carrollton, Georgia and Sgt. Kennedy Sanders from Waycross, Georgia were also killed in the drone strike. 

Funeral services for Sgt. Moffett will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at Jonesville Baptist Church preceded by a visitation on Friday, Feb. 16 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. also at Jonesville Baptist Church.
