Georgia DOT Holding Public Open House for Proposed US 80 Safety Improvements on Tybee Island
Monday, March 25th, 2024
The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) will host a Public Information Open House to discuss the proposed US 80 safety improvements between Lazaretto Creek and Tybrisa Street on Tybee Island in Chatham County.
The public is encouraged to come view displays and discuss the details of the proposed US 80 improvement project with Georgia DOT staff. The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 28 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Guard House, located at 31 Van Horn Street on Tybee Island. There will be no formal presentation, so interested participants may stop by at any point during the meetings.
In order to reduce frequency and severity of crashes and improve traffic flow, GDOT proposes to reconfigure the number of travel lanes along the four-mile section of US 80/SR 26 between Lazaretto Creek and Tybrisa Street, add a center turn lane, add pedestrian hybrid beacons (PHB) or rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB) at multiple intersections, and install a cycle track.
