The Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee to Serve a Special “Green” Breakfast for Union Mission Clients
Tuesday, March 12th, 2024
The Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee will serve Union Mission clients a special “green” breakfast on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 7:00 – 8:00am at Grace House (120 Fahm Street).
"The Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee is committed to giving a hand up to those less fortunate in our community,” explained Tim Mahoney, General Chairman of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. “Our faith and our Irish heritage compel us to serve. Many of our Irish ancestors came to this country to escape hunger and seek better lives. Without the generosity of the Church and the people of Savannah, they would have found only hunger and homelessness rather than opportunity and prosperity in the new world. Today, Union Mission carries on the daily fight to serve those in desperate need and to provide shelter for those who are homeless. We encourage all to join us in service to help the less fortunate."
Union Mission’s Grace House provides 32 beds for men experiencing homelessness as well as 28 transitional housing units for graduates of the Emergency Housing Program and 12 beds for previously incarcerated individuals to promote successful transitions to the community. Union Mission provides basic human needs such as housing, food and clothing for up to 90-days with the overall goal of helping clients end their homelessness. An array of individualized services also support stability and independence, including access to mental healthcare, employment support, specialized training, transportation and community referrals.
In December of 2022, Union Mission expanded services by opening a Day Center at Grace House to provide homeless individuals on the streets and squares with basic needs such as food, clothing, referrals, access to supportive services, and shelter from weather conditions. The program is open to the homeless community Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 4:00pm and Saturday from 8:30am – 2:30pm.
"The Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee celebrates in the spirit of St. Patrick and his mission of spreading the Christian message throughout all of Ireland,” said Mahoney. “We want to see our entire community share in that same celebration, no matter where they call home."
