Current Edge Solutions President Mike Joyner recently participated as a speaker at Burns & McDonnell’s first Community of Inclusion and Equity Symposium. Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned engineering, architecture and construction firm, organized the event which recognized small and diverse businesses including municipalities, utilities, entrepreneurs and more.

“As a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, our commitment to diversity and inclusion is not just a value, but a cornerstone of our ethos, fostering a workplace where every voice is heard and every individual is empowered to thrive,” said Joyner. “Embracing diversity not only enriches our organization but also fosters a culture of innovation and understanding, essential for our mission's success.”

Held in Atlanta, this year’s symposium emphasized the critical role of supplier diversity in fostering equity within infrastructure endeavors across the southeast. Attendees heard presentations from thought leaders on diversity best practices and how supplier diversity impacts equity in infrastructure in the Southeast.

“By focusing on supplier diversity, we are opening doors to untapped, talented and much needed resilience in the Southeast's infrastructure sector,” says Julia Taylor-Settles, Southeast business diversity manager at Burns & McDonnell. “Our symposium aims to spotlight effective practices that empower diverse suppliers and enhance organizational success.”
