Chatham Parkway 80-hour Closure at I-16 Anticipated in Late June

Weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will implement an 80-hour closure of Chatham Parkway at Interstate 16 starting at 9 a.m. Friday, June 21, and ending at 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 25. During this period, contractors will finish raising the existing Chatham Parkway bridge over I-16 to support reconstructed interstate lanes below.

Not all navigation applications may reflect the detour at the time of the closure, and motorists are advised to follow detour signage and posted speed limits. During the 80-hour complete Chatham Parkway bridge closure period, all ramps on and off I-16 will remain open, except as noted below.

During the closure, traffic will be impacted as follows:
I-16 eastbound (EB) off-ramp traffic will only be able to turn south onto Chatham Parkway
Northbound (NB) Chatham Parkway traffic approaching I-16 will only be able to turn right onto I-16 EB
I-16 westbound (WB) off-ramp traffic will only be able to turn north onto Chatham Parkway
Southbound (SB) Chatham Parkway traffic approaching I-16 will only be able to turn right onto I-16 WB
From Saturday, June 22, at 9 p.m. through Sunday, June 23, at 5 a.m.
I-16 EB will be closed at Chatham Parkway
I-16 WB will be closed at Chatham Parkway
From Sunday, June 23, at 9 p.m. through Monday, June 24, at 5 a.m.
I-16 EB will be closed at Chatham Parkway
I-16 WB will be closed at Chatham Parkway
From Monday, June 24, at 9 p.m. through Tuesday, June 25, at 5 a.m.
I-16 EB will be closed at Chatham Parkway
I-16 WB will be closed at Chatham Parkway

Following this closure, the Chatham Parkway bridge will remain four lanes, two in each direction, with a reduced median width and temporary barriers along the outside edges. The left turn lanes onto I-16 will have reduced lengths for additional construction lasting four months after the closure.
Advisory: Exact time may change due to weather conditions. There may be intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures that occur within the work zone in addition to this notice. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
