GOGAL Empowers Savannah Women in Honor of Financial Capabilities Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 2024
Celebrating Financial Capabilities Month, GoGal is proud to announce the
graduation of its inaugural entrepreneurship class in partnership with ACE Women’s Business
Center, Step Up Savannah, and Bank of America. The class includes fourteen women who are
completing classes where they will learn entrepreneurial skills. The program sessions feature
presentations on business banking, branding and marketing, and leadership development from
local business leaders such as Amy Shippy, Marianne Ganem Poppell, Nick Correa, and Victoria
Baylor. At the conclusion of the program, participants will take their business ideas from concept
to market.
In the Savannah community, there is a large need for programs like GoGal to make an impact
and this initiative empowers women of color aspiring to be business owners by providing them
with the resources and support necessary to thrive in entrepreneurship. With a focus on practical
knowledge and hands-on experience, these sessions will equip future businesswomen with the
tools needed to make informed financial decisions.
“Helping diverse entrepreneurs drives economic opportunity,” said Nick Correa, small business
community officer, Bank of America Savannah. “Investments into organizations like GoGal Step
Up Savannah build skills and create experiences to help prepare new entrepreneurs for long-term
success and ultimately strengthen our community.”
Director of the Women's Business Center Vernell Stewart added, "I'm thrilled to play a role in
empowering entrepreneurs, guiding them from dream to reality, and laying the groundwork for
their successful launch."
The final phase of the initiative involves providing individual coaching on establishing a
corporation, obtaining a Tax ID, registering with the GA Secretary of State, and opening a
business banking account.
Graduation details and business launches are forthcoming with a tentative date of late summer.
