Re:Purpose Savannah, a women+ led 501(c)3 nonprofit establishing a sustainable future through the deconstruction, salvage, and reuse of historic buildings, announced today that Mae Bowley, Executive Director of Re:Purpose has stepped down from her position.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together during my time at Re:Purpose Savannah," said Bowley. "It has been an honor to lead such a talented and dedicated team, and I am confident that this organization will continue to thrive in the years ahead. I am grateful for the support of the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners who have made our achievements possible."

Under Mae’s leadership, Re:Purpose Savannah has grown from a pilot program to a forerunner in the deconstruction and salvage industry, promoting circularity and sustainability in our built environment on a national level. "We are deeply grateful for Mae's exceptional leadership and contributions to Re:Purpose Savannah," said Clara Fishel, President of the Board of Directors. "During her tenure, she has played a pivotal role in advancing our mission, guiding strategic initiatives, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Her dedication and groundbreaking vision have been instrumental in Re:Purpose's success, and she will be greatly missed."

The Board of Directors has initiated a search for a new executive director. In the interim, Director of Deconstruction Katie Fitzhugh and Director of Salvage Kelley Lowe will serve as co-directors of the organization. Both Katie and Kelley share the Board’s commitment to build on Mae’s legacy as Re:Purpose Savannah enters this new chapter. The organization remains focused on its mission to:
  • Advocate, educate, and provide a climate-conscious alternative to conventional demolition that mitigates environmental and public health impacts

  • Connect best practices for structural removal with historic preservation, emphasizing research and documentation to preserve the diverse histories in our community

  • Train women+, including women-identified, trans, non-binary, and other underrepresented people, for meaningful careers in construction

The Board of Directors and Re:Purpose staff express their heartfelt gratitude to Mae for her thoughtful leadership and passionate dedication to this organization.
