Savannah’s April Unemployment Rate Drops to 2.4%

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Savannah recorded an unemployment rate of 2.4 percent in April, down five-tenths over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 2.4 percent.

"From the state to the local level, Georgia is focused on creating an environment where businesses can thrive, and everyday workers can find good jobs and build better lives.”

The labor force decreased in Savannah by 482 and ended the month with 204,567. That number went up by 4,582 when compared to April of 2023.

Savannah finished the month with 199,610 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 410 over-the-month and rose by 4,475 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Savannah ended April with 207,100 jobs. That number went up from the previous month by 1,400 and rose by 3,900 when compared to this time last year.

In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 82 (17%) in Savannah. When you compare April 2024 claims to April 2023, claims were down by 63 (-10%).
