The City of Port Wentworth announces the sudden passing of Assistant City Manager and Chief Development Officer - Jason Stewart over the weekend.  In addition to these roles, Stewart was also the Zoning Administrator and Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board. His responsibilities at the City of Port Wentworth included the managing of planning, zoning, permitting, building inspections, engineering, public works, and leisure services.

Originally from Virginia, Jason Stewart had a successful career in planning and zoning and after moving to the Coastal Empire worked as a Planner for the City of Rincon, taking the role of Interim City Manager there at one time.  He joined the City of Port Wentworth in 2022 reporting to and working closely with City Manager, Steve Davis, to develop and implement significant projects as part of the extensive growth the city is experiencing.

“It is with great sadness, that we received this tragic news,” said Steve Davis.  “Jason was dedicated, loyal and professional as well as a genuinely good guy and mentor for so many.  He was an important part of our team and instrumental in achieving some phenomenal changes for the City of Port Wentworth. He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, family and friends”

It is believed that 47-year-old Jason suffered an unexpected cardiac event at home, and he leaves behind his wife and many close friends and co-workers to mourn his passing.  The City of Port Wentworth has ordered all flags to be at half-staff to honor his memory.
