Savannah Speech and Hearing Center (SSHC) is proud to announce we received the 2024 Women United Transportation Fund Mini-Grant from United Way of the Coastal Empire to help eliminate transportation barriers in our community. United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Women Who Rule event, held annually in March, raises funds for residents across our region who need dependable transportation.

United Way’s Women United Transportation Fund connects community members to dependable transportation to get to work, school, medical appointments, and vital access to resources like food, job training, and other important services. The fund provides gas cards, bus passes, and may even cover minor car repairs to ensure reliable transportation.

“This funding makes a profound difference to the women and families who receive it. It helps a multiple stroke survivor make it to her various medical appointments as well as our weekly support group for survivors of stroke and TBI. It allows a single mom to get herself to nursing school, to bring her son to his rehabilitation appointments here at our Center, to his school programs and then bring them both back home safely at the end of the day. We’re so grateful to United Way for enabling us to come to the aid of our clients who need it the most,” says Outreach Coordinator, Jenna Harcher.
