Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to City of Port Wentworth for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.

The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

“The city is honored to receive this award as it demonstrates our commitment to consistently implementing ethical and transparent financial processes over the last two years since the new administration for the City of Port Wentworth was appointed,” said Steve Davis, City Manager.  “Under the management of our Chief Financial Officer, Thomas J. Kilmartin, and his team, we are confident in our financial processes as we invest taxpayer dollars into improving the quality of life for all residents.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“My department is honored to receive this award from the Government Finance Officers Association,” said Port Wentworth’s Chief Financial Officer, Thomas J. Kilmartin. “The award reflects positively on the financial management of the city, to reporting transparency and on the department management who commit daily to protecting the city tax payers.”
