GaDOE Releases 2023-24 GMAS Scores, SCCPSS Students Show Improvement Across Subjects/Grade Bands
Monday, July 29th, 2024
SCCPSS students showed improvement on the 2023-24 Georgia Milestones assessments with district gains in nearly all subjects and grade bands in SY 2024. There were improved Proficiency and Content Mastery Achievement scores across all tested grade bands in ELA and Social Studies, as well as in elementary and high school Science (Biology). The only decline in scores came in Middle School Science with a decline of just under 3 points.
The greatest gains came in ELA Content Mastery, with improvements ranging from more than 4 points in high school to nearly 8 points in middle grades. ELA achievement reflects content in both the Reading & Vocabulary and Writing & Language domains, including performance on narrative and extended writing responses. Reading on Grade Level rates improved along with overall ELA achievement.
Though Content Mastery scores still fell below the state, gains did outpace those of the state. SCCPSS also compares favorably to its comparison group. District Content Mastery exceeds the comparison group by 3-4 points in Elementary Grades ELA and Science (5th grade), along with over 6 points in high school ELA, 11 points in high school Biology and 14 points in U.S. History. District Content Mastery is within 1 point (either above or below) of the comparison group in Middle Grades ELA, 8th Grade Science, and 8th Grade Social Studies.
Because math assessments were updated to align with the new K-12 Mathematics Standards first implemented during the 2023-24 school year, math Georgia Milestones scores will be available for release later this fall. Data is anticipated in September. Due to the change in standards, SY 2024 data will not be comparable to SY 2023.
